Wind Energy and its History
People throughout history have used wind energy as a resource to provide them with the power they need. On the Nile it was used to power boats along the Nile going back some 5000 B.C. China in 200 B.C., used wind energy to the power of windmills to grind grain and to pump water. Early in the 20th century windmills were once again widely used to harness the wind’s energy, particularly with the rising cost of fossil fuels.
Wind Energy and Alternative to Fossil Fuel.
Wind power, is an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful supply right around the globe. Most people now-a-days classify wind energy as a renewable energy source which can be harnessed world wide. It can be used to generate power through the capture of wind energy which turns the turbines to make electricity. Many windmills harness wind energy to convert it into a mechanical power for grinding grain or irrigating agricultural soils. Windpumps can also used for pumping or draining soils too.
According to Wiki the total amount of economically extractable power available from the wind is considerably more than present human power use from all sources. Also Wind power now has the capacity to generate 430 TWh annually, which is about 2.5% of worldwide electricity usage.
Wind Energy is Renewable Resource
Wind Energy is a renewable resource and is a clean form of energy. It produces no green-house gas emissions. The great news is the cost per unit of energy produced is similar to the cost for new coal and natural gas.
